The 4th Squadron of Helicopter Wing 64 (Hubschraubergeschwader 64) based in Laupheim, the military home to the German Air Force's special forces, has received the first two H145M Leichter Kampfhubschrauber (LKH) SOF aircraft.

The German Armed Forces are believed to have ordered five H145M LKH SOF aircraft, based the D3 version of the H145M, replacing the LUH variant currently operated by the German SOF. The LKH will provide a higher payload and a lower noise signature enhancing the H145M’s operational capability in Special Forces role.

A Luftwaffe spokesperson said. “The first two H145M LKH SOF helicopters have landed in Laupheim. This light combat helicopter will support the operational readiness of our special forces, featuring innovative sensor technology, modern connectivity and precision weaponry. With this helicopter, we are expanding our range of capabilities for the modern operational environment for greater striking power, increased flexibility, and enhanced operational effectiveness”

Once all five aircraft have been delivered the Luftwaffe's SOF in Laupheim will have over 20 H145M helicopters, 15 of which are in the "Light Utility Helicopter – Special Operation Forces" (LUH SOF) variant and 5 in the H145M LKH SOF variant.
