Three scholarships established in honour of company legends David Rye, Ian Frazer and Jeff O'Sullivan

Auckland, New Zealand – Salus Aviation is proud to announce the launch of a new scholarship programme designed to support the next generation of aviation engineers while honouring three individuals whose dedication, expertise and leadership have helped shape the company and the wider aviation industry.

The new programme will offer three annual scholarships to students enrolled in the New Zealand Certificate in Aeronautical Engineering (Workplace Introductory Skills) Level 4 programme at Nelson Marlborough Institute of Technology (NMIT). Each scholarship will be awarded in the name of one of Salus Aviation's founding legends: David Rye, Propellor Engineer Hamilton, Ian Frazer, Chief Engineer - Overhaul Ardmore, and Jeff O'Sullivan Technical Support Manager - Helicopters Ardmore.

David Rye, Ian Frazer and Jeff O'Sullivan are widely respected throughout the industry for their technical knowledge, leadership and commitment to sharing their expertise with others. Through mentoring apprentices, supporting engineering teams and contributing to the development of industry capability, each has played an important role in helping strengthen New Zealand aviation.  In addition, for decades, David, Ian and Jeff have played pivotal roles in the growth and success of the business, contributing not only their technical expertise but also their passion for the aviation industry. Their careers have been defined by professionalism, innovation, craftsmanship and an unwavering commitment to excellence.

"These scholarships recognise three remarkable individuals whose contributions have left an enduring legacy within our business and the aviation industry," said Greg Edmonds, Chief Executive Officer of Salus Aviation.

"David, Ian and Jeff have each dedicated their careers to developing people, maintaining the highest engineering standards and helping build the industry we know today. It is fitting that their names will continue to inspire future generations of aviation engineers as they begin their own journeys."

In addition to receiving the scholarship, the recipients will be offered the first opportunity to undertake a six-week work placement with Salus Aviation, providing valuable hands-on industry experience and exposure to one of New Zealand's leading aviation organisations.

The scholarship programme has been developed in partnership with NMIT and aims to encourage and support students pursuing a career in aeronautical engineering at a time when the aviation industry continues to face a growing demand for skilled technical professionals.

The scholarships form part of Salus Aviation's broader commitment to workforce development, apprenticeships and technical training, ensuring the industry continues to attract and develop highly skilled aviation professionals for the future.

As students embark on their aviation careers, the David Rye Scholarship, Ian Frazer Scholarship and Jeff O'Sullivan Scholarship will serve as a lasting reminder of the standards of excellence, integrity and dedication that have defined these three aviation legends and continue to inspire future generations of aviation engineers.

NMIT Director Strategy and Engagement Kate Neame said:

“We’re excited to partner with Salus Aviation on these scholarships, which will help support talented ākonga (learners) pursuing careers in aeronautical engineering. Alongside the financial support for our learners, the six-week industry placement with Salus Aviation will give them valuable real-world experience and help them develop the skills, confidence and industry connections they need to be work-ready when they complete their programme. Partnerships like this are incredibly important because they connect learning with industry, helping ensure our graduates are well prepared to step into the workforce and contribute to New Zealand’s aviation sector.”
