Landmark Delivery to Airworks S.L. Marks a New Chapter in European Firefighting Capability and International Partnership
THI is proud to announce the successful delivery of the first Restricted Category, N-Registered UH-60L Black Hawk helicopter to operate in Europe, a historic milestone that will significantly enhance aerial firefighting capabilities in the region. The aircraft has been delivered to Airworks S.L. of Spain, where it will be deployed in support of critical wildfire suppression and emergency response operations.
This achievement represents far more than the delivery of a world-class aircraft. It marks the culmination of an extraordinary 18-month journey characterized by collaboration, perseverance, regulatory engagement, and the development of a lasting friendship between the teams at THI and Airworks.
From the earliest discussions through aircraft preparation, regulatory coordination, operational planning, and final delivery, both organizations worked side by side to navigate a complex and groundbreaking path that has now resulted in a truly historic accomplishment.
“Today is a day of immense pride for our entire THI team,” said Tyson Davis, President of Timberline Helicopters Inc. and its affiliates. “The delivery of the first Restricted Category N-Registered UH-60L in Europe is an achievement that reflects the dedication of countless professionals on both sides of the Atlantic. More importantly, it reflects the trust, partnership, and friendship that have developed between THI and Airworks throughout this journey.”
An 18-Month Journey of Collaboration
The road to this milestone began more than a year and a half ago, bringing together aviation professionals, government stakeholders, regulators, directors, administrators, and industry leaders from multiple organizations.
Throughout the process, representatives from THI and Airworks participated in numerous meetings, technical reviews, operational discussions, and regulatory engagements necessary to establish a framework for the aircraft's successful introduction into Europe. The project required patience, innovation, and a shared commitment to achieving a common objective: enhancing Europe's capability to combat increasingly severe wildfire threats.
During this period, THI and Airworks had the privilege of meeting with respected leaders, directors, administrators, and aviation professionals whose guidance and support helped move the project forward. Every challenge encountered became an opportunity to strengthen the partnership and demonstrate what can be achieved when organizations unite around a common mission.
“What makes this accomplishment especially meaningful is the people behind it,” Davis added. “Over the last 18 months, we have built relationships that extend well beyond business. We have shared challenges, celebrated progress, and worked tirelessly together toward a vision that is now reality.”
Honoring a Special Partnership
THI wishes to express its sincere gratitude to the entire team at Airworks S.L. for their professionalism, confidence, and unwavering commitment throughout the process.
The company extends special appreciation to Nicolas and the Taname Family, whose friendship, support, and dedication were instrumental in bringing this project to fruition.
What began as a business relationship has evolved into a partnership founded on mutual respect, trust, and shared values. The connections forged throughout this journey will continue to shape future opportunities and cooperation between the two organizations.
“We are truly delighted to have been on this journey with Airworks,” said Davis. “The support, friendship, and trust shown by Nicolas, the Taname Family, and the entire Airworks team have been invaluable. We are deeply grateful for the relationships that have been built and look forward to many years of continued collaboration.”
Strengthening European Support Capabilities
As part of the expanding relationship between the two companies, Airworks S.L. will serve as THI’s forward operating support presence in Europe for UH-60 Black Hawk aircraft requirements.
This strategic partnership will enhance support, responsiveness, and accessibility for current and future UH-60 operators throughout Europe. By leveraging Airworks’ local expertise and operational presence, THI will be able to provide even greater assistance to customers seeking proven Black Hawk capabilities across firefighting, emergency response, utility, and special mission operations.
The establishment of this European forward support presence reflects THI’s long-term commitment to the region and confidence in Airworks as a trusted partner.
A Historic Beginning
The delivery of this “Restricted Category” UH-60L represents more than the arrival of a helicopter in Spain. It symbolizes innovation, determination, international cooperation, and a shared commitment to protecting communities and natural resources from the growing threat of wildfires.
As the aircraft enters service, THI and Airworks look forward to building upon this achievement and continuing to advance the capabilities of UH-60 operators throughout Europe.
“This is not the end of a project; it is the beginning of an exciting new chapter,” Davis concluded. “We are honored to stand alongside Airworks as partners and friends, and we look forward to supporting their mission for many years to come. Together, we have achieved something truly historic, and together, we will continue building the future of UH-60 operations in Europe.”
