Replacing five aging fleets with a single platform is the ambitious goal of the HIL (Light Joint Helicopter) program. Led by the three joint French armed forces, this "major impact" program plans to modernize air capabilities with the arrival of the H160M Guépard, the military version of the H160B.

Intended to replace the Fennec, Gazelle, Dauphin, Panther and Alouette III, this new helicopter embodies the desire for harmonization, versatility and performance in the service of the French armed forces.

The development of the H160M Guépard is distinguished by its innovative approach, in line with the reference framework for the conduct of armament operations, IM 1618. The principle is a "platform" work which gives rise to a contribution from the three armies at all stages: expression of the need, technical specifications, development, and flight tests. This approach allows on the one hand a saving of time and resources by avoiding duplication in the evaluations, and on the other hand a very significant gain in performance of the final product for its future operational use.

As part of this, the Integrated Flight Test Team (EIEV) has carried out the first flight involving armed forces personnel in Marignane. The pilot from the Military Air Expertise Center (CEAM) was designated to inaugurate the participation of the armed forces in the flight test program. As a reminder, the EIEV brings together test flight personnel from the various stakeholders: Airbus Helicopters, the DGA-EV and Air Force, Navy and Army teams based at Air Base 125 in Istres.

Flight tests will gradually increase in intensity with the arrival of the 2nd and 3rd prototypes. In the spring or 2026, the Guépard will make its first test campaign with armaments. Testing will continue through 2025 to 2029, to evaluate the common base and then the specific requirements of each branch of service.
