The US State Department has made a determination approving a Foreign Military Sale to the Government of Israel of AH-64E Apaches and related equipment with an estimated cost of $3.8 billion as part of a defense package.
The Government of Israel has requested to buy thirty AH-64E Apaches plus an equipment and support package including: seven ten spare T700-GE 701D engines, Night Vision Sensors, Target Acquisition and Designation Sights, Longbow Fire Control Radars and M299 Missile Launchers.
The contract will also include a Longbow Crew Trainer, a tactical engagement simulator, a Maintenance Training Device, communication systems and helmets.
The State Department said that the United States is committed to the security of Israel, and it is vital to US national interests to assist Israel to develop and maintain a strong and ready self-defense capability and this sale is consistent with those objectives. The contract will also increase interoperability with US forces and conveys US commitment to Israel's security and armed forces modernization. Israel will have no difficulty absorbing this equipment into its armed forces.
The principal contractors will be Boeing located in Arlington, VA and Lockheed Martin, in Orlando, Florida and will require temporary duty travel of five to eight US Government and contractor representatives to Israel for a duration of up to five years to support equipment fielding and training.
