The Philippine Navy has announced that it has carried out the first launch of a Rafael Spike NLOS guided missile from an AW159 Wildcat during a live-fire unilateral missile exercise west of San Antonio, Zambales. This was the first firing of the Spike Non-Line of Sight (NLOS) Missile System that can strike surface targets up to 50 kilometers.

The Philippine Naval Air Wing currently operates two AW159 Wildcat helicopters, which serve as the air component of the new-generation warships acquired from the Republic of Korea.
